While I do not know if you have any children, it is probably a good thing if you did not! I will soon be 60 years old, my parents used my rear end as an educational method when it was needed. It did not happen often, only when I "crossed the line" on something. My two daughters were paddled on occasion, when I thought it was needed. I did not use a board, just my hand. I did not "wear them out", usually one or two swats on the rear was suffiicent in their younger years.

My youngest daughter is now in law enforcement, a street cop in Jackson, Tennessee. I suppose that you would like to see police dis-armed so that they don't hurt some law-breaker; following your so called "logic" on not spanking children.

Tell you what, you raise your kids your way and let us raise our kids our way. With so called "experts" of your ilk, we sure as heck do NOT need your professional advice!

Ms. Couture;

As a bleeding heart liberal, you, of course, miss the whole point! You speak of closed minds; are you not guilty of the same thing you accuse me of? You do not advocate any spanking at all, and think ill of those who do! What do you do if a child does not respond to your voice, or are you against raising your voice to a mis-behaving child as well? You turn an occassional paddling into claims of physical abuse of a child. In our family this was not the case, the verbal warnings always preceeded the crack on the behind!

Just in case you missed the point, discipline in American homes, through the years, made this country what it WAS, the greatest nation on this earth! We had families that were Christian and knew right from wrong. It was instilled into us in our childhood. I have talked to many people who are my age who had it "beaten into them" not to do wrong. These "abused children", as your liberal mind set would have us to believe, know right from wrong and, who are today, a productive person in society.

The people I and my daughter come in contact with on the streets today, are the ones who were probably raised by the likes of you, not taught any discipline at all, other than the "don't do that" mentality! They grow up in society, believing that no one should be allowed to discipline them, therefore they can do as they please. They have YOUR kind of thinking to thank for their raising. I would be willing to bet that if you found your life on the line, you would gladly accept the help from one of "those cops" who were spanked in their childhood!

I ride with a lot of good officers, men who would not hesitate to put their lives on the line to protect even you! These "abused men" who you would have me to believe are cops because they were spanked (disciplined) as children and want to pass the cruelty on, are more rational in their thinking than I fear you will be capable of! They use reality, along with logic, to form an opinion!

If you look back to the 50's and 60's, we could ride our bikes and roam the neighborhood all day long, without any fear of being picked up by some pervert or child molester. We would roam our neighborhoods at will on the week ends without fear of predators (who probably never were disciplined) . Your warped thinking would put those parents who found spanking their children a necessity in this same catagory. How sad, to have a supposedly intelligent person think so illogically!

I believe you fit into the catagory of what I refer to as "book smart and street stupid".

Please keep your opinions to yourself...............I'll raise my kids as i see fit and yes i whip thier little asses when needed and keep your little hiney out of brookline
