re: "Time to Spare the Ron," Mike Barnicle, Nov. 16

Editor:

I read "Brookline, time to spare the Ron" by Mike Barnicle, and was disturbed by Barnicle's cavalier attitude. Ron Goldman is neither a publicity hound nor an extremist with a "spanking fetish". Rather, he seeks an end to the practice of hitting of children. The long-term damage done by subjecting small children to corporal punishment (battery) is serious. The world would be a far safer place if a more humane approach to discipline replaced archaic ones.

Kudos to far-sighted people like Goldman. He shows wisdom which Barnicle needs to recognize. Rather than insinuating that Goldman deserves a spanking, Barnicle should apologize for such slander and his cavalier approach to how we treat the most vulnerable among us.
