Reply to "PTAVE's letter to education officials in states that allow corporal punishment in schools," from Dorie Combs, Ph.D., Chair, Department of Curriculum & Instruction, College of Education, Eastern KY University, July 13, 2009

Dear Mr. Riak,

I received your letter regarding physical punishment in schools. EKU’s teacher education program does not recommend or condone spanking or other forms of physical punishment of children in schools in any of our programs.

While the practice of corporal punishment is left to school districts in KY, most no longer allow the practice.

If you want to find out more about KY’s regulations regarding corporal punishment, check with Kevin Brown (Kevin.brown@education.ky.gov) at the Kentucky Department of Education.
