A Morrisville child-abuse defendant, caught last fall at a motel with an 11-year-old boy while out on bail, pleaded guilty yesterday in Bucks County Court to a long list of child-pornography and attempted sexual-assault charges.

John Henry Sorber was first accused in January 2004 of having child pornography and of attempting to assault a 13-year-old boy at his home. While awaiting trial on those charges, police found him in October with the young son of a housemate at a Gettysburg motel. The boy's mother, who had recently rented a room to Sorber, had not known of the pending charges, or that Sorber's bail conditions forbade him from being around children.

Sorber, 55, lured children with expensive gifts and paid them for letting him spank them, Deputy District Attorney Jennifer Schorn said. [Emphasis added] He had thousands of images of child pornography on his computer, papers showing he had been approved for the Big Brothers/Big Sisters program, and literature about adopting foster children, Schorn said.

Sorber will be sentenced after being evaluated as a sexual offender under Pennsylvania's Megan's Law. No sentencing date has been set.
