Former High School Coach Gets Probation For Spanking Players
NY 1 News, November 30, 2005

A former high school basketball coach on Staten Island was sentenced to six years probation Monday after he admitted spanking three male players.

Drew Sanders pleaded guilty to sex abuse and attempted assault charges, among others, for spanking the three boys who were 14 and 15 years old at the time.

Sanders said he spanked the victims to "degrade" them after they missed shots during basketball drills.

The incidents happened at the Jewish Community Center in Greenridge, and at Susan Wagner High School.

Under his plea deal, Sanders must now register as a sex offender.

He's since been fired from his job as assistant basketball coach at Tottenville High School on Staten Island.
