North Carolina Opens Female Boot Camp

(HOFFMAN) -- North Carolina prison officials are banking that a new get tough strategy with women prisoners will stop them from becoming repeat offenders. Corrections department officials opened the state's first boot-camp-style prison for female offenders in Richmond County yesterday. State corrections secretary Mack Jarvis says boot-camp will give the courts another avenue to address some of the female offenders' problems. He says the military-style training is designed to instill discipline... self-confidence and a good work ethic in women. The new nearly two-million dollar facility in Hoffman will house 60 women ages 16 to 30.
