Baby dies of abuse; man arrested, KTBS3, July 31, 2008

A 7-month-old baby in East Texas has died of extensive injuries that appear to be from abuse, authorities in Shelby County said today. The man who was caring for the baby has been arrested.

Christian Collins had been on life support at Sutton Children's Hospital in Shreveport since last Friday. He died on Monday.

Authorities said police answered a 911 call at the family home in Tenaha and found the baby not breathing. He was taken to a hospital in nearby Center and then airlifted to Sutton Children's.

Bradley Brock, 18, of Tenaha, is jailed on charges of injury to a child. Those charges could be upgraded after the district attorney reviews the case, Shelby County Sheriff Newton Johnson said.

Smith said the baby showed evidence of having been choked and shaken. He also had injuries to his ribs and skull and bite marks on one foot, Johnson said.

Authorities said the baby's mother was not home at the time of the alleged abuse. She has not been charged.
