DCF to investigate belt-spanking dad
(Florida) EmeraldCoast.com, September 25, 2007

An investigator with the Department of Children and Families will look into whether a father crossed the line when he beat his daughter with a belt as punishment.

The girl, who is either 16 or 17 years old, suffered welts and bruises on her legs, according to an Okaloosa County Sheriff ’s Office report. The girl is a student at Fort Walton Beach High School.

A school resource officer was called to the guidance office to discuss the matter with the girl on Sept. 13.

“I explained to (her) that her father has a right to discipline her. I told her that he does not have a right to abuse her,” the deputy wrote in his report. The girl told the deputy that the beating happened about two and a half weeks before. The reason for why she was punished is not available at this time.
