MOHALI: Education department ordered dismissal of the teacher who allegedly beat 16 students studying in Class VIII in Government Senior

Secondary School Mubarikpur, near Dera Bassi on January 17. Confirming the development, district education officer (DEO) Niranjan Singh said the teacher Vikram Pal has been terminated for giving corporal punishment to students. The teacher has been put under termination as corporal punishments are against the law.

Eight students aged between 13 and 15 years were reportedly beaten by the teacher whose parents had later lodged a complaint with the police. Taking serious note of the incident, a detailed inquiry was conducted by the district education officer, report of which was submitted to higher officials after which a show-cause notice was issued to the accused teacher, asking for explanation within 21 days. “After a detailed inquiry, we found the teacher accountable for the deed. His service has thus been terminated,” said the DEO.

According to sources, they were give homework by the science teacher. Since the students failed to complete the homework in time, the teacher scolded them, and then complained about it to the computer teacher who further started beating the students with a wooden stick after locking them in a room.
